For An End to the Judgment of God/Kissing God Goodbye
View the event
Los Angeles, CA - World-renowned director Peter Sellars stages his own translation of Antonin Artaud's For An End to the Judgment of God--the controversial writer's hallucinogenic, searing and prophetic final text--and couples it with poet June Jordan's epic Kissing God Goodbye, in this powerful and politically potent production.
Acclaimed Los Angeles performer John Malpede portrays a high-level Pentagon official, delivering Artaud's text as a video-enhanced press briefing on the progress of the government's war on terrorism. The courageous response in a woman's voice is Jordan's profound poem, described by Sellars as "opening a path forward with passion and clarity and love into a different 21st century." Originally created for the 2002 Vienna Festival, the production represents a rare Los Angeles presentation of a work by the internationally praised director in the city he calls home.
REDCAT is located in downtown Los Angeles at the corner of W. 2nd St. and S. Hope St., inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex. Performances will be October 21st-24th, Thursday - Sunday, at 8:30pm. Ticket prices range $44-20. Seating is general admission.
