THOMAS HIRSCHHORN

The Swiss-born, Paris-based artist emphatically states that he does not make political art, but makes art politically--a statement that holds true in challenging public installations like his Bataille Monument, created in conjunction with Documenta XI, but built outside of the exhibition space with the assistance of the residents of a Turkish housing project in the center of the project’s public space in Kassel, Germany. Hirschhorn is currently engaged with solo projects at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, New York’s Gladstone Gallery and San Francisco’s CCA Wattis Institute.
