ELLEN BRUNO:
STORIES OF DEATH AND SURVIVAL

Los Angeles premieres

"Ellen Bruno continues to speak the unspeakable. Like dreamscapes, Bruno's films are impressionistic portraits of experiences that can't be processed rationally." Release Print

Noted for her unflinching documentation of social, economic and human rights issues in East Asia, Alpert Award-winning filmmaker Ellen Bruno screens two new films: Leper (2005, 25 min., Beta SP) provides a rare, intimate and compassionate glimpse into a contemporary society of lepers in a remote village in Nepal, while Sky Burial (2005, 15 min., Beta SP) follows the ritual of jha-tor ("giving alms to birds") in a northern Tibet monastery--where the bodies of the dead are offered to the vultures as a final act of kindness to living beings.

In person: Ellen Bruno

Funded in part by a generous grant from The Herb Alpert Foundation.
