REDCAT holds a sweeping survey of animation from around the world curated by Myron Emery, Bérénice Reynaud and Maureen Selwood of the CalArts School of Film/Video.

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to an unforeseen blackout in the REDCAT facilities, the New Animation from East Asia screening of Thursday, Oct 6, had to be cancelled.

The films that were included in that particular program have been rescheduled for Friday, October 7.

October 6
NEW ANIMATION FROM EAST ASIA
This lineup provides a rare glimpse into the newest developments in animation coming out of East Asia. The centerpiece of the program is Toe Yuen's award-winning feature Mai dau goo si (My Life as McDull, Hong Kong, 2001, 75 min.). Based on hugely successful cartoons by Alice Mak, who also provides the artwork here, the film deals with the travails of a sentimental piglet comically trying to fulfill the dreams of his overachieving single mother.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ANNECY FESTIVAL
Drawn from this year's selections of the Annecy Festival--one of the foremost animation showcases in the world-this program includes work by Raul Arroyo, Laurent Bourdoiseau, John Canemaker, Gaelle Denis, Arnauld Ganzerli, Maja Lindstrom, Anthony Lucas, Jose Miguel Ribeiro, Rosto, and Ali Taylor.

PHANTOMS AND DREAMS
An artist's imagination can sharpen the distinctions between what is real and what is imagined--between beauty and horror, solace and malediction. Representing a wide international spectrum of distinctly personal approaches to animation, this program features work by Alex Budovsky, Michelle Cournoyer, Sarah Cox, Marc Craste, Isabel Helguera, Henry Hughes, Vuk Jevremovic, Raimund Krumme, Mathilde Philippon-Aginski, Gabriel Pielke, Maureen Selwood and Virgil Vidrich.
