The California EAR Unit / Dubbelspoor

"Triumphantly out there... the California EAR Unit is known for taking left turns away from convention." Los Angeles Times

Centered around Dutch master Louis Andriessen’s gem-like Dubbelspoor, this new program from the brilliant Los Angeles ensemble puts forth a lineup of compositions that reflect distinctive international perspectives. The glittering title piece, meaning “double track,” scored for celeste, piano, glockenspiel and harpsichord, contemplates the phenomenology of refracted views from two trains passing each other as they travel in opposite directions. The concert also includes Australian composer Liza Lim's Veil, featuring Daniel Rosenboom on trumpet; Arpège, by Franco Donatoni, Esa-Pekka Salonen's compositional mentor; Raphaele Biston's .oscil, hot off the presses of the Conservatoire de Paris, and the world premiere of Ann Millikan's The Woodcarver and the Blacksmith.
