SCREAM 08: Vic Ray Electric
World Premiere

"[Ray] displays that kind of musical thoroughness and technical panache that puts a composer's thoughts directly before the listener." Los Angeles Times

Celebrated as one of the world's leading interpreters of contemporary piano music, virtuoso keyboardist Vicki Ray is the featured artist at the annual concert presented by the Southern California Resource for Electro-Acoustic Music (SCREAM). Headlining the program is the world premiere of Rand Steiger's awhirl, a composition selected via an international competition for works for piano and electronics. Steiger's exuberant piece features mercurial gestures, swirling flights of arpeggios and multi-channel spatialization. Ray is also performing a series of other works for piano and electronics: Peter Ablinger's Voices and Piano, Eric Chasalow's Due Cintamani, SShaun Naidoo's Credo and Bad Times Coming, Steven Ricks' Young American Inventions, Jacob ter Veldhuis's The Body of Your Dreams, and Daniel Wohl's Foret Mecanique. Ray is a member of The California E.A.R. Unit and Xtet and a founding member of the PianoSpheres concert series.

Made possible through a generous grant from The Netherland-America Foundation and with support from Abby Sher and The Consulate General of the Netherlands.
